Guide to property downsizing
There may come a point where you are looking to downsize a property. You may no longer require a larger space and the benefits including less cleaning, less maintenance and lower energy bills make it totally worth it if you don't require as much space as before.
Spending less time on the property will allow you to focus on more important stuff like family or friends but before taking the step to downsize your property there are a few things that you should consider so you can ensure the move goes as smoothly as possible.
Marketing your current property
The first thing you'll want to do when you decide to downsize it to list your property with a reputable local estate agent who will give you a great property valuation and let you know an approximate sale price of your property.
Your estate agent can then find a suitable buyer for your property and also find a perfect smaller home for you.
Only take necessary belongings
Naturally in a smaller home you will have less space so this is your chance to get rid of any belongings you no longer need. You may also need smaller furniture to replace any furniture that is too large. Ensure you take as accurate of a measurement of your new home as you can to avoid any returns.
Anything that you don't need can be given to family members, donated or sold on eBay.
Plan it out
When you have received the moving date do as much as possible to prepare for moving out as possible.
Make sure you clearly label everything in boxes and think about where each box will be unpacked to make it easier for you. Thorough organisation of your boxes is likely to make the process much easier.
You can also ask for some help if you feel like the task is too difficult.
Contact utility suppliers
Ask your estate agent for the contact details of the previous utility suppliers so you can contact them and setup new accounts and ensure they have relevant information of your moving in date.
