8 Easy Steps to Becoming More Energy Efficiency
8 Steps To Becoming More Energy Efficiency
Turn all electrics off standby
Your devices may still be active running background tasks when on standby. Turning your devices fully off will ensure that it’s not using a lot of power. An average TV can use as much as 10 watts which translates to around £16.24 a year and with rising electricity prices it’s likely to make even more of a difference than that.
Heating costs
Putting your heating on a timer can be a great idea to save money because this lets you only have the heating on when needed as well as not having it run too hot.
Wash clothes at a lower temperature
While washing your clothes at a high temperature is preferred it turns out we don’t need to be washing them at the high temperatures we use now.
Avoid using the tumble dryer
Even tumble dryers that are energy efficient cost £30 a year to run and this cost will continue to increase. A tumble dryer with an energy efficiency rating of a ‘C’ can cost £100 a year so if you can dry your clothes outside it will save you a fortune each year.
Switch to LED bulbs
LED bulbs use less energy and last up to 25 times longer than ordinary bulbs which makes switching bulbs a small change that can benefit you in the future.
Buying efficient appliances
Next time you are buying a new appliance for a room in your house make sure you check the energy rating label and aim to purchase appliances with great ratings.
Insulate your house
A house tends to lose 30-40% of its heat through walls that have not been insulated.
You will find most issues in older homes as new homes are insulated to a very good standard.
Invest in a boiling water tap
A typical kettle will cost you 2.5 pence per boil whereas boiling water will only set you back 3 pence for an entire day.
So as you can see making a few small changes you can drastically reduce your energy bill and make large yearly savings.
